This reading group (or book club) has been in operation since Spring of 2004. The members are primarily friends and acquaintances who attend the Athens II Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. However, this is not a church-affiliated group, and anyone is welcome to join.
We meet every month or two at a member's home and discuss the book we've been reading together. The person hosting the discussion (usually the one who recommended the book) gives a little background information on the author and leads the discussion on the book (this is all extremely low-key, by the way).
The host also provides refreshments, which often somehow go along with the theme of the book. We read a wide variety of books though we probably read classics more often than other types of books.
